This is a fabulous course on the history of African American childhood. The readings are well selected and doable, and discussion was always interesting (often with the authors of the readings serving as guest speakers). Overall, I highly recommend this course.
Take this class! It has a light workload and the material is very interesting. Professor Bernstein is a joy to listen to.

This class is taught by a white professor so keep that in mind. A lack of Black perspective.
Great class, low stress
This is a great class. It is fun to take, and is so interesting. Don't worry if you don't know American history very well or if this class seems a little out of your comfort zone or if you don't have prior experience in social sciences or English–type courses. It's such an amazing, broad course, and you learn so much as you go. It's an eye–opening course, and you leave having grown as a scholar and as a person. The course staff are so great and do everything they can to make sure that everyone leaves with a positive experience of this class. I highly recommend you take this class.
Please take this class the most enjoyable one I have ever taken
This course will completely transform how you think about children, socially and politically, and it will encourage you to think about history in more expansive fashion.
It's very enriching and has an emphasis on the historical perspective.
